Angora Goats

HMFF has worked hard since 1992 to develop a quality colored angora with characteristic, uniform spiral locks and that maintains a fine diameter well into maturity with low grease weights. We have utilized genetics from breeders all over the country to achieve this goal... and even tried imported semen from New Zealand. They are raised to CAGBA standards and have shown well, although my chief goal has always been exceptional and marketable fleeces.

Our very first colored angora buck, Pasha, came from Kai Ranch in Texas. I put him over a few white commercial nannies and got lucky with a colored kid the first year! Here are just a few of the fine bucks I have used over the years:

old file photo of Kai Ranch Bingo and Brooks Farm Geronimo: two early bucks used at HMFF in the 1990s

Kai Ranch Floyd - longer and taller than my herd to date...with a fine, but grease-type fleece. Strong color in his offspring. Used 2002

Indian Springs Awesome - a great all around buck who consistently threw uniformity as his best trait. Awesome did more to improve quality in my fleeces than any other buck to that point. Used selectively from 2000- 2005

This is the only photo I have of Hidden Valley Ranch Zenith (as a kid) Greaseless, open navajo type fleece of great luster and uniformity. He was my first experiment with a good Navajo type and I was very impressed with his offspring..He is descended from Cahuna Gallant (NZ import) . Zenith was used in 2002 and produced the line of black bucks I have favored since.

Rock Bottom Farm Carlos - big and uniform with strong dominant color contribution - Used 2004

HMFF Amadeus - great color and uniform character on a solid structure - Used 2005-2007

HMFF Mozart - a promising young buck with a uniform, low grease fleece and great coverage. Used 2008

Enduring Oaks Feanaro -a beautiful South African blood buck: low grease weight, uniformity and coverage from nose to toes! - in use 2007-2008

A small herd of white angoras are also in development with a goal of producing a more open, high luster, low grease white fleece blending the best of the Navajo-type angora with available registered and commercial stock... and currently utilizing a South African blood buck.

Available stock is posted in Season's Bleatings! , our farm newsletter, and updated monthly.
