Meat Goats

Our History:

Our goal was to produce a stout homestead meat goat to fill the freezer and provide off season income for the farm. We started with a 3/4 blood buck on our dairy does in 2000, later adding some nice fullblood does. Each year we sold the lowest percentage does and kept only the best of the higher percentage does.

Co-grazing with our sheep, the meat goats pull their weight year round keeping the pastures weed-free and cleaning up new paddocks long before I dare put angoras in! Their easy-going dispositions, even the biggest bucks, make them a joy to work with.

Bucks used over the years:

TriQuest Woody, our first Boer was 3/4 blood used 2000-2002

HMFF Eskil [no photo, but a nice pinto'd buck] Used 2003

HMFF Hector in 2004 took us a step in the right direction

Hiatt's Isaac , a borrowed buck in 2005, nice on the front end, but not the back end I wanted

OUR PRESENT:

We are currently at 7/8ths and fullblood does in solid reds, spots, and classic Boer pattern and utilizing a fullblood buck. Many of our current does are out of Pinto Macho or his son, Pinto Machismo . Big deep bodies, meaty back ends, large bone with wide set legs are the norm now. Colorful coat patterns make them a joyful addition to the pastures and as a side benefit to the handspinner, these guys carry a good amount of cashmere undercoat as well!

TTT Pinto Macho , a borrowed buck that did more in 2006 to improve HMFF stock than any buck to date! His kids had tremendous bone and muscle from day 1. He was gigantic from head to tail and pinto'd to boot! I kept every doe out of this guy and one buck!

HMFF Pinto Machismo in service : 2007 and 2008 A nice meaty buck with a flashy coat!

Meet some of young HMFF Does!

Foster Jodie - a pretty young doe found at auction!

HMFF HolyMoly - a yearling doe with a great kid!

HMFF Henbane - a pretty doe with great bone , solid structure, and flashy color like her sire, Macho.

I am pretty happy with the development of our meat herd. While the males are mostly wethered for meat, there are select does and an occasional special buck available via the farm newsletter with updates posted monthly.
