HMFF mohair is carefully hand-sheared twice a year. The spring clip is usually processed but the fall clip is available raw either direct from the farm of at our ebay store : Herbal Maid Gallery
 
 
1st clip Kid is oh so soft!
 
First and second clip mohair is termed KID mohair and is the finest the goat will ever produce.  Great for next-to-the-skin garments , spinners love its softness .  It is also a popular choice of  crafters for "reborn" type dolls.  Usually 5-6 inches in staple length and comes in various shades of black, red, or white.   Blend with Bluefaced or Blueface Hybrid Leicester fleeces. Prices vary from $16 to $24 / lb and are sold by the fleece.

Third and fourth clip mohair is termed YEARLING mohair.  Still soft enough for any spinners project, it also has more strength and greater luster than KID mohair.  Spinners prize it for making designer type yarns.  Doll crafters also favor yearling mohair for longer hair dolls.  Usually 5-6 inch staple length.  It blends perfectly with HMFF Bluefaced Hybrid fleeces  and comes in various shades of black, red and white. Prices range from $12 - 18 / lb and are sold by the fleece.
 

Adult Clips : Fifth clip and above is divided into two general catagories : Fine adult mohair and Strong Adult mohair. Staple length is 5-6 inches and comes in various shades of black, red and white.

Fine adult is strong and lustrous... great for blending with wools of similar length and diameter (like our Border Leicester) or for spinning alone for weaving projects.  Prices range from $8 - 16 / lb and are usually sold by the fleece, but can be divided if the fleece is a particularly large one.

Strong mohair is often older doe or buck fleeces which is primarily used for items that require durability such as woven rugs, outer garments, etc.This can be blended with stronger wools like Lincoln for durable goods. Prices range from $6 - 14 / lb and are usually sold by the half fleece since they are often large fleeces.

A word about quality: these fleeces are hand sheared and skirted twice: once at shearing for manure or felted tags, belly or britch... and again before weighing to remove any excessive vegetation. All you get is the good stuff!  Ready to wash.  If you don't like it, return it intact for a full refund of your purchase price.
