Paco Vicuna (or PVs for short ) are a crossbred Alpaca x Vicuna . Vicunas are the small wild camelid cousin of llamas and alpacas. They are rare, costly creatures and not available for export; but alpaca buyers noticed vicuna traits in some of the herds of alpaca rounded up for auction in South America. (Apparently they are crossbreeding in the wild). Back in the U.S., breeders of the PV are selecting for vicuna-like traits such as the bib of super-fine hair, smaller heads with huge round eyes and heightened alertness. PVs come in the red/white wild type and white.
