Seasons Bleatings! Feb2006
HMFF
Sheep
I am anxiously awaiting the first lambs and should have
news in the March issue. All Bluefaced and Border Leicesters were exposed
to Beechtree Blackpark "Parker" this year, so I should have a
few registered Bluefaced Leicester and select BFL Hybrid lambs for sale. In
addition, some mature Border Leicester ewes will be offered for
sale this year in order to keep my numbers down to a manageable level...
look for them in later issues of this newsletter. For now here the list of
those available NOW.

Salelist:
HMFF Jupiter #0075yellow
our
wonderful silver Border Leicester herdsire who has given us so many great lambs.
His fleece is always one of the first to sell each year... it looks like pale
silver moonbeams! Born in 2001, he is in his prime and ready to serve.
Fleece weight averaged over the past 3 years is 8.3#. Will be sheared again
in March. Micron tested at 30.8. Registered with the NCWGA.
$200
HMFF Arthur
#0070yellow
A white wether Border Leicester. The best
fleece in the entire flock according to my shearer, but I need to reduce my
numbers, so he goes on the list. His fleece has won in competition at Fiber
Faire and Heart of America/National Border Leicester Show. (why oh why did I
wether this one?) Average fleece weight over the past three years is 8.3#.
Born in 2001. Would make a great addition to a spinners flock.
$100.
HMFF Ganymeade
#153blue
A black twin Border Leicester ewe born 2004 out of
HMFF Gertrude (white BL) and HMFF Jupiter (silver BL). Bradford count 50.
Lamb fleece was 3 3/4#. Exposed to Parker! Not sure if bred
yet. I am selling her because she is not quite as uniform
as some of the others ewe lambs of that year. (I am being picky). A
great starter ewe. $150
Three Yearling Rams... get em now
while the selection is good!
HMFF Galahad
#202yellow
A white Bluefaced Leicester Hybrid! Twin.
Born 2005 out of Beechtree Danforth (white registered BFL) and HMFF Gertrude
(white Border Leicester). This guy was a really sharp looking lamb and has
a gorgeous fleece now that he is grown. (I'll get some yearling pix
soon) Will be a real asset to a spinners flock. Most people like these
fleeces better than either the Border or the Blueface... they are fine AND long.
$200
HMFF Rook #205yellow
A black Bluefaced Leicester Hybrid! Single.
Born 2005 out of Beechtree Danforth (white registered BFL) and HMFF Raven (black
Border Leicester). Like Galahad above... these Hybrids are really the perfect
fleece! $200
HMFF Jack Be Nimble
#207yellow
A white 3/4 Bluefaced Leicester!
Twin. Born 2005 out of Beechtree Danforth (white registered BFL) and
HMFF Jacinta (a white BFL Hybrid). Very stylish and uniform. Extra
fine pencil curl locks like his daddy. Bluefaced
Leicesters are used in the UK to produce the best meat lambs...
here in the U.S. we have discovered that their fleeces improve the fleece of
just about every breed they have been tried on.
A full blood ram costs $400-500... get this
3/4 blood for $200.
