Seasons
Bleatings !
Its June and Missouri is lush with growth and
green. The sheep and goats are slick and fat and it is time to turn our thoughts
towards getting hay done again. The fans run during the day in the
rabbitry, but it is still pleasantly cool at night. I haven't got the household
air conditioners out yet, but I'm sure we will be doing that soon. Wild
gooseberries and blackberries are coming along.... and I think there will be a
bumper crop of wild grapes this year. Hope I can get some before the birds
do.
Other news from the farm:
The new pasture was completed on schedule and ready
to accept the flock in June. My thanks to friend Gary and brother John who
helped immeasurably!
White
peacock
A white peacock has joined the flock at HMFF!
He came minus his tail feathers so he would fit in a crate, but they will grow
back in by September. I have long wanted a white peacock . If you have
ever seen that glorious white spread of feathers like a great lace fan, you
would know what I mean. It is beautiful! My current black shouldered
peacock is not sure he likes this new addition, but the peahens seem to think he
is interesting.
MoNCWGA Heart of America show at
Sedalia
I just got back from the show at Sedalia where I
had a wonderful time meeting up with old friends and making new ones. I
also had an opportunity to put faces with a few of the names on my mailing
list! That was fun. The three workshops went well and the rabbit show
was 10 times the size of last years showing! In the photo above,
see the judge, Betty Limoges judging an HMFF rabbit that took 2nd place in his
class. Thanks to all the folks who bought every rabbit I took to
sell! I spent some time talking to an interesting couple who also raise
rabbits around Rolla, Mo. I am planning a trip to visit their rabbitry later
this summer and will report!
There are still plenty of bunnies left to choose
from here....an updated bunny list including a new litter of whites is found
on the rabbit
page.
One of my Hybrid Leicester fleeces took a blue
in it's division at H of A ! To see the yearling ram it came off of, see the
sheep page!
Congrats to Pam who purchased the fleece!
Kittens
Its that time of year again and Sushi has presented
us with her modest yearly offering of kittens: each cuter than the next
with lots of spots! If you would like to give a farm kitty a home,
please contact me at hmffarm@fidnet.com
Estes Park Wool Market here I
come!
I am leaving shortly for a whirlwind trip to
Estes Park to judge the goat show and speak at the goat breeders dinner.
If any of you are at this fabulous Colorado mountain show, be sure to look me up
and say hello!
On my goat
page this month, I have featured two French Alpine dairy bucks,
one Boer 4-H prospect, and a pair of twin Colored Angora kids!
As always, I thank you all for your support and
look forward to hearing from you!
