For Sale: "New" Ashford Traditional

This is a NICE wheel. It was purchased by a novice spinner a few years ago but I could tell it had never really been used. I oiled the wood and the moving parts, adjusted the maiden, and gave it a test drive by spinning two bobbins of llama and then plying it back :  it spins great and fast too!  A sturdy practical wheel... scotch tension,  Single drive.  Single treadle.  Classic styling.  Ashfords  most popular model and an excellent beginners wheel which holds its resale value should you ever want to part with it.  Used all over the world!  All parts and accessories for this model are still available from Ashford.

Retail price is $350/370... will sell for $300

Dutch ‘STAPHORSTER’ spinning wheel.

This fascinating vintage wheel was manufactured 25 years ago, but was never used. It came to me direct from Holland  in its original package.  It's made of solid beech . I put it together and rubbed it with orange oil and took it for a test spin using some of my wool/mohair blend roving and made a nice smooth yarn  with surprising ease.  It also has a large orifice and big hooks so should be able to do designer yarns .  I have never seen one of these wheels before... chances are it will be unique in your spinning circle!  It is single drive, scotch tensioned... with nice big bobbins.

This saxony style wheel comes with

  • three bobbins
  • integrated but easy removable lazy kate
  • flax distaff
  Measurements
  • the orifice has a diameter of 0.47”
  • total height: 50” (incl. distaff)
  • diameter of the wheel: 17.7 “
  • weight: 16.9 lbs
I did alittle research:  the Staphorsters are much like the Amish here in the U.S.   Staphorsters are strict, rural traditionalists who still wear only  traditional dress and observe no-work Sundays.
The village is home to sheep and stork farms (I had no idea anyone raised storks!)  where the old time crafts are everyday skills.
