A GRAVITY WATER SYSTEM FOR THE RABBITRY

One of my goals for this year was to set up a gravity water system in the rabbitry.  Here are some pictures of the system.  So far, it works GREAT!  It has saved me time on the morning chores and also has relieved me of worrying whether the rabbits have enough water  or if they dumped their water (especially when it is hot).  When I feed each day, I randomly check the system by pressing on the needle valve in the cage to make sure all is working properly.

With colder weather coming on, I will be putting heat tape on the water lines and perhaps an immersion heater in the barrel.   If the weather gets extremely cold, I may have to drain the lines each night... but that will be easy to do with the drain plugs. I'll let you know how it goes.

Here are a few pictures of the system:

A valve set into a 55 gallon plastic drum

clips hold the water line and the founts close to the backs of the cages... the PVC waterline is flexible enough to go around my t-posts and back to the cages.

brass drainplugs allow me to flush or drain the system as needed.

my plumbing system looks kind of like a big letter E with drainplugs at the end of each row of cages

inside the cage the rabbit has access to a brass needle-fount.... all the rabbits figured out the system immediately!   Note: for those of you that purchased SuperNova offspring this past year:  this is one of his daughters... a nice black tort.

PS:  nothing like a picture to show you what needs to be fixed... look at that floor! argh....  I'll get right on that!
